the works of yaakov hamizrachi

"oh judas heart"

Oh Judas heart that beats beneath my breast
You have betrayed me to a bitter fate.
Oh Lord, for what misdeed yet unconfessed
Am I condemned to love this one whose hate
For me shall neither wither nor abate?
Far hotter than the fires of Hell her scorn
That daily burns my soul. Yet still I wait,
Enduring her abuses night and morn,
And nourishing a feeble yet forlorn
Hope that my sins so foul shall be forgiven.
With but a touch I straightway would be borne
From Satan's Pit unto the gates of Heaven.
Beloved, please, baptize me with a kiss;
Transport my soul from Hell to perfect bliss.

An example of a Spenserian Sonnet. Popularized by Edmund Spenser, it is written in iambic pentameter and has the form:
abab bcbc cdcd ee.
